Circuit Court Judge Yvonne Colodny is proud to have been born and raised in Miami. After graduating from North Miami Senior High School, she went on to study at Florida State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History and then her juris doctorate.
Throughout her career, Judge Colodny has sought to give back to the public education system by speaking at local schools and by welcoming young people into the courtroom to experience the process of the law.
Before joining the bench, Judge Colodny served as an Assistant Public Defender for 10 years. During that time, she handled cases in the domestic violence, juvenile and felony divisions. She was assigned as a training attorney and tried over 100 jury trials to final verdict.
Upon her election to the Circuit Court in 2008, Judge Colodny was assigned to the Criminal Court Division, where she presided over thousands of cases. She also presided over the Felony Mental Health Division program for which she received the Miami-Dade County Mental Health Summits Paul Kaminsky Commitment to Justice Award.
Judge Colodny currently serves as the Administrative Judge in the Probate division where she handles estate, trusts, mental health and guardianship cases.
Throughout her 20 year commitment to public service, Judge Colodny has been a champion for a fair and equal system under the law.
